The Impact of E-Path Technology on Ontario Cancer Registry Operations
Author: Jack K. Golabek, P.Eng, AIM Inc.; Darlene Dale, Nelson Chong, Cancer Care Ontario

Computerized cancer casefinding and electronic pathology reporting (E-path) has been in operation at the Ontario Cancer Registry, Ontario, Canada since March 2001. The impact of E-path technology on cancer registry operations was studied to ascertain how the system affects timeliness of reporting, time and resources required to register cancers and related costs. The processing time (from surgical procedure, through receipt of pathology at the cancer registry, to coding and registration) was analyzed for routine operations between August 1, 2001 and October 31, 2001.
